Many schools are moving to developmental rubrics. These can be effectively created in the updated version of compass electronic rubrics. However, the idea to the effective use of these rubrics is to have students complete some form of diagnostic testing at the beginning of a topic, the rubric is filled out to show current understanding and areas that they need to improve. Then at the end of the topic they will be assessed against the same rubric. The intent would be to then select a skill that is higher in a column or row to show their progression of skills throughout the duration of the topic. Currently, if you select one box in a row you can not select another box in the same row without the selection moving and thus no longer showing what the original box that was selected was. As a result teachers will need to use rubrics they create on their computer or hard copy paper currently and we can not use the functionality on compass. I would like to see the ability to be able to select at minimum 2 boxes in the same row/column to show a start and end point of student understanding.
