I’d like to suggest that Compass develop a reporting template aligned with the Victorian Department of Education’s suggested report format for Semester 1, 2027 onwards, ready for schools to use for Semester 2, 2026 reporting where possible. Due to industrial action, many Victorian government schools used a different report structure for Semester 1, 2026. With the Department suggesting a new reporting format from 2027, this presents an opportunity for Compass to support schools by developing the updated template ahead of time. Why would this be valuable? Consistency: Supports alignment with the Department’s suggested reporting format across Victorian government schools. Reduced workload: Minimises the need for schools to repeatedly redesign and adjust their reporting processes. A smoother transition: Allows schools to begin using the new structure for Semester 2, 2026 reports, rather than changing reporting formats multiple times over an 18-month period. Improved planning: Gives schools time to familiarise themselves with the new format and prepare their reporting processes for 2027. Given the large number of Victorian government schools using Compass, I believe this would be a valuable product enhancement for many schools. Ideally, Compass could provide a template that reflects the Department’s suggested structure, with appropriate flexibility for schools to customise elements to suit their context while maintaining alignment with the recommended format. Developing this now would help schools transition smoothly and avoid unnecessary administrative work associated with multiple reporting changes in a short period.
